Emergency repairs on water supply valve in Hout Bay under way

The City’s Water and Sanitation Department is currently doing emergency repairs to a damaged valve that is affecting the water supply to a large part of Hout Bay. Every effort is being made to complete the repairs as soon as possible. It is estimated that the water supply will be restored at approximately 21:00 due to the complexity of the work involved.

Areas without water are Lower Mount Rhodes and the vicinity of Park Road.

The City’s Water and Sanitation team is monitoring the Hout Bay and Suikerbossie Reservoir levels.

Residents in Hout Bay who are not currently affected by the water supply disruption are requested to reduce their consumption to reduce the strain on the water supply to the area.

Consumers in the Suikerbossie corridor are also requested to reduce their consumption to avoid water supply disruptions in Llandudno.

The maintenance crew will be attending to the repairs which also requires that a concrete breaker be used to access the encased damaged valve for replacement.

Water tankers will be roaming through the affected areas to provide water for domestic use during the repairs.

The City regrets any inconvenience caused but it is imperative that it maintains and repairs its water supply infrastructure to benefit its consumers.
